Sudhir Ruparelia Leads Celebration of Nepal’s Constitution Day in Kampala

Kampala – Businessman Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, who also serves as the Honorary Consul of Nepal to Uganda, led a ceremony on Monday to mark Nepal’s Constitution Day. The event was held at the Consulate of Nepal in Crane Chambers, Kampala.

The commemoration, which included a symbolic cake-cutting, took place three days after the official September 19 observance in Nepal. It brought together several Nepalese nationals living and working in Uganda, including many employed within the Ruparelia Group.

Nepal’s Constitution Day is observed annually to remember the adoption of the country’s 2015 Constitution. The document officially changed Nepal from a constitutional monarchy into a federal republic. It is also remembered as an important milestone in the country’s recovery from the 2015 earthquake and is considered a symbol of resilience and inclusion for historically marginalized groups.

Speaking at the Kampala ceremony, Dr. Ruparelia said the day was “a celebration of resilience and shared values.” He also pointed to the growing cultural and diplomatic connections between Uganda and Nepal.

Dr. Ruparelia was appointed Honorary Consul of Nepal to Uganda in 2020 by then-President Bidhya Devi Bhandari. Since his appointment, he has worked to strengthen ties between the two countries through both diplomatic and business channels.

The event at Crane Chambers highlighted his dual role as a leading Ugandan entrepreneur and a representative of Nepal, while also allowing the Nepalese community in Uganda to celebrate their national day abroad.
