The National Unity Platform (NUP) has given its estranged members 30 days to return to the party secretariat and resolve internal disputes, or face expulsion ahead of the 2026 general elections.
NUP Deputy President for the Buganda Region, Muwanga Kivumbi, announced the directive during a mobilization meeting with central region party leaders at the party’s headquarters in Kampala. He criticized several Members of Parliament for deviating from party ideals, warning that failure to re-engage with leadership within the month could lead to their replacement. The party aims to secure over 100 parliamentary seats in the upcoming elections.
Named MPs include Mathias Mpuuga (Nyendo-Mukungwe), Abed Bwanika (Kimananya-Kabonera), Bashir Kazibwe (Kawempe South), and Twaha Kagabo (Bukoto South), accused of defying official party positions.
NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, known as Bobi Wine, stated that the party will field new candidates against sitting MPs who do not align with its vision. He emphasized the need for vetted, trusted, and dependable candidates to defeat the National Resistance Movement (NRM) at all levels, from the presidency to local positions. Kyagulanyi accused some MPs of betraying voters by failing to deliver on promises, vowing increased vigilance to prevent such issues.
The early warning is part of NUP’s strategy to strengthen internal discipline and unity, as the party prepares for a robust campaign against the ruling regime.
