Police in Bushenyi District have opened investigations into the gang rape of a Kampala International University (KIU) student by attackers armed with knives. The assailants also stole her Samsung A16 mobile phone.
The incident happened on Sunday around 10:20 a.m. in Katungu Cell, Ishaka Division, where the victim, a Nigerian national and second-year Law student at KIU’s Western Campus, lives.
Police said the attackers forced their way into her room, threatened to kill her if she raised an alarm, and then raped her in turns before fleeing with her phone.
The student is receiving treatment at Bushenyi Police Health Centre II, where she was given post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) to prevent HIV infection.
Greater Bushenyi Region acting police spokesperson SP Apollo Tayebwa confirmed the case and said detectives had visited the scene to collect evidence.
He added that police are working to track down the culprits and recover the stolen phone. He urged the public to provide any information that could help in the arrest of the suspects.
The victim was also issued a PF3 medical form for documentation after the examination.
By press time, no arrests had been made, but police said they are following leads to ensure the attackers are brought to justice.
