Yoram Baguma, the man captured in a viral video attempting to approach President Yoweri Museveni during a campaign rally, has been formally charged and remanded to prison until April 16.
The 28-year-old resident of Katabi Town Council in Wakiso District was arrested on March 11 at Kawempe Mbogo, where he reportedly tried to gain access to the President. On Tuesday, he appeared before the Kawempe Chief Magistrates Court to face charges.
According to the prosecution led by State Attorney Sarah Sharon Nambuya, Baguma is accused of acts intended to alarm, annoy, or ridicule the person of the President. He also faces charges of assaulting R/O Lieutenant John Sande Natukunda and disobeying lawful orders.
The case was initially presented before Grade One Magistrate Damalie Aguma Asiimwe, who deferred it due to jurisdictional issues.
Before his court appearance, Baguma had been in custody and was subjected to interrogation by both the Directorate of Crime Intelligence and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
