The territorial police in Amolatar District received a report of a suicide by hanging involving Opolot Thomas, which occurred between April 10 and 11, 2025, in Nakituba “A” Village, Muntu Parish, Muntu Sub-County, Amolatar District.
On April 10, 2025, Opolot Thomas, aged 42, was last seen drinking at Muntu Township Centre, where he expressed intentions to commit suicide, citing ridicule for failing to marry. He had previously been in relationships with two women but had separated from both.
That evening, around 7:00 p.m., Opolot returned home, still making suicidal remarks. His brother, Olobo, followed him, noticed he had a rope, and took it away, informing their father. The family did not act further on the matter.
On April 11, 2025, at around 6:00 a.m., Opolot was found hanging from a mango tree approximately 8 meters from his house.
The police registered the case at Muntu Police Station, and the Scene of Crime Officer documented the crime scene. A piece of cloth believed to have been used in the suicide was recovered, along with the rope previously taken from Opolot, which was kept as evidence.
The body was released to relatives, and statements from family members were recorded. The police noted several recent suicide reports and urged those with suicidal thoughts to seek support from loved ones or professionals.
