Police in Kabale district are investigating a gun theft at Pearl Hotel in Kigongi Central Division, Kabale municipality, which occurred around 4:20 AM.
A security guard, Osbert Byonanebye, aged 23, from Ruhama Veterans Security Services, was reportedly asleep on duty when an unknown individual stole an SAR rifle (number 564210028-15120) containing two rounds of ammunition.
The thief fled toward Rushaki, and despite the guard’s attempt to pursue, the suspect escaped.
A case of gun theft has been opened at Kabale Central Police Station, and authorities are actively searching for the perpetrator.
The public is encouraged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities or items related to the stolen firearm. Additionally, after losing the gun, Byonanebye went into hiding, possibly to avoid police questioning. Authorities are also seeking him to assist with the ongoing investigation.
