The administration of the Uganda Police Force (UPF) has released a shortlist featuring the names of over 16,600 Ugandans who have qualified for interviews for police jobs. Specifically, 16,678 candidates have been shortlisted for the position of probationer police constables, following an advertisement for applications in March 2025.
The UPF is seeking to recruit up to 10,000 probationer police constables, targeting Senior Four leavers who hold a Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) certificate obtained no earlier than 2020. Applicants with higher academic qualifications were advised not to apply, as the recruitment is focused on UCE holders.
The eligibility criteria were stringent: candidates must possess a UCE certificate or its equivalent with at least four credits, including either English or Mathematics, and a pass in another subject under the traditional grading system. For those under the new Competency-Based Curriculum, the requirements are at least four “C” grades, including either English or Mathematics, and a “D” grade in another subject.
The shortlisted candidates will now proceed to interviews, which are scheduled to begin on April 28, 2025. The interview process will include a fitness test, an aptitude test, an oral test, and a medical examination. Candidates are required to bring their original national identity card and academic documents to the interviews.
Interviews will be conducted at designated recruitment centers on specified dates, and all shortlisted applicants must report to their respective centers by 8:00 AM. The UPF has reiterated that the recruitment process is entirely free, and candidates should refrain from paying any money to anyone for services related to the recruitment.
