National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, known as Bobi Wine, has spoken firmly to President Yoweri Museveni as Uganda moves closer to the 2026 elections.
Bobi Wine said he is ready for talks with Museveni, but only about one thing — how Museveni will peacefully leave power.
Speaking with strong words, Bobi Wine made it clear he is not interested in money, political deals, or power-sharing agreements.
“We are not here to discuss how much you want to give us like you gave Minister Norbert Mao. We want to negotiate your departure, just like Kenya negotiated the peaceful exit of Dictator Moi,” Bobi Wine said.
His comments were a direct warning to Museveni, who has ruled Uganda for nearly 40 years.
Bobi Wine accused Museveni’s government of using money and government jobs to weaken opposition leaders instead of focusing on real democracy.
Bobi Wine told Ugandans not to accept bribes or promises from the government.
He said doing so only delays real change and keeps Uganda stuck under the same leadership.
The opposition leader pointed to Kenya’s history, where President Daniel Arap Moi stepped down peacefully after years in power.
Bobi Wine said Uganda must also follow a peaceful and democratic path to change leadership without violence.
Bobi Wine’s message comes at a time when political temperatures in Uganda are rising.
By setting conditions for talks, Bobi Wine has made it clear that he will not play political games. He wants real negotiations that will bring an end to Museveni’s long rule.
The ball is now in Museveni’s court. Will he agree to peaceful talks about his exit, or will he continue to fight to stay in power?
