A tragic road accident at Wantoni Junction along Jinja Highway in Mukono District claimed the lives of three individuals and left ten others injured on the evening of May 20, 2025, at 9:00 PM. The collision involved four vehicles and five motorcycles, causing significant damage and loss.
According to preliminary investigations by the Uganda Police, the driver of a Mitsubishi Fuso truck (UBB 422U) lost control at the junction, veering into the opposite lane. The truck collided with multiple vehicles, including three Toyota Hiace vans (UBP 359W, UAW 042E, and UAQ 398L), and five motorcycles (UFL 976T, UFN 916P, UEU 698W, UDK 495B, and UDZ 777A). The truck also struck roadside food stalls, exacerbating the devastation.
The crash resulted in the immediate deaths of three individuals. Ten others, including pedestrians, motorcycle riders, drivers, and passengers, sustained injuries and were rushed to medical facilities, primarily Mukono General Hospital. The bodies of the deceased were transported to Kawolo Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.
All vehicles and motorcycles involved in the incident have been towed to the Mukono Police parking yard, where they await inspection as part of ongoing investigations. Authorities are working to determine the precise cause of the accident and to ensure accountability.
The Uganda Police have urged drivers to exercise caution on the roads, particularly at busy junctions like Wantoni, to prevent such tragedies in the future. Further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
