In a tragic incident early Sunday morning, April 27, 2025, a private security guard from G.K.O Security Company was fatally shot during a foiled robbery at Diamond Trust Bank’s Wakiso branch in Uganda.
The deceased, identified as Emmanuel Okao, was killed in the line of duty. Police recovered two firearms from the scene and arrested a suspect, Justine Okello, aged 27, who surrendered to authorities.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the details, highlighting the successful prevention of the robbery and the swift apprehension of the suspect. Community members have taken to social media platforms, including X, to express gratitude for the police’s prompt response.
In a separate but equally distressing event, police have arrested suspects involved in the murder of Prisons police officer Suleiman Chemonges. The incident occurred on April 6, 2025, during the burial of Lazarus Kahangire in Ibanda District.
Kahangire, who had been on remand for attempted murder, died in police custody due to pneumonia. Mourners at the burial accused Chemonges of being responsible for Kahangire’s death, leading to a violent attack that resulted in the officer’s death.
The Uganda Police Force is actively investigating both cases, assuring the public of their commitment to bringing all perpetrators to justice. These incidents highlight ongoing security challenges in Uganda, with authorities working to address violent crime and public safety concerns.
