JUST IN! Police’s Director Legal AIGP Charles Kataratambi is Dead

Charles Kataratambi, the Director of Human Rights and Legal Services in the Uganda Police Force, has passed away.

Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke confirmed the news, saying Kataratambi had been struggling with health problems since taking up the role last year.

Kataratambi joined the police as a cadet in 2001 and built a long career in criminal investigations. Over the years, he served in different units including the Media Crimes Unit, the Land Protection Police Unit, and the Flying Squad. In 2013, he was transferred to the Special Investigations Division.

His career was not without challenges. In 2015, he was among the officers arrested over claims of mishandling a fraud case, though he was later cleared. Despite that setback, he continued to serve and in May 2024 he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police. It was then that he was appointed to lead the Human Rights and Legal Services directorate.

Kataratambi’s death closes the chapter on a career marked by resilience and service in some of the most sensitive areas of police work.
