A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday morning at Naigombwa trading centre in Bugweri district, where a speeding Toyota Wish struck three pupils from Naigombwa Primary School crossing the Iganga-Tirinyi Road.
One pupil was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two were seriously injured and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. According to a report by 97.8 Kazo FM Omushomesa, the deceased pupil’s body was transported to the mortuary by police.
Ugandans expressed their grief on social media, offering condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and wishing a swift recovery to the injured pupils. The community is mourning the loss of a young life and rallying around the affected families.
This incident coincides with the Uganda Police Force’s ongoing campaign urging citizens to report reckless drivers. Police reports indicate that over 200 fatalities occurred in road accidents involving boda-boda riders between 2024 and 2025, prompting authorities to intensify scrutiny on these motorcyclists.
The accident at Naigombwa trading centre serves as a stark reminder of the dangers on Uganda’s roads and the urgent need for improved road safety measures. As the nation mourns, efforts to combat reckless driving and protect vulnerable road users must be redoubled.
