Two men from Western Kenya have captured public attention after turning to an unusual cultural practice to deal with their troubled marriages.
Christopher Auma and Kevin Barraza, both in their middle years, agreed to swap wives after both women were accused of being unfaithful.
The turning point came when Kevin’s wife, Lilian Weta, questioned him for bringing another woman into their home. He had introduced the visitor as his cousin. Kevin defended himself by saying he felt neglected. He claimed Lilian had already chosen another man and that he was left feeling like a widower.
Looking for a solution, Lilian later reached out to Christopher Auma. He suggested that they simply live together instead. Christopher argued that people should be with those who value them most, while the rest should also be free to find peace in new relationships.
In an unexpected twist, both couples agreed to the swap. They have since lived together in this new arrangement for several years without conflict.
The case was brought to the attention of local police, but it was later settled with the help of elders. They gave their approval on condition that each family returned the bridal gifts that had been exchanged at marriage.
The children from both households were informed about the changes and are said to have adjusted to their new family lives.
When asked about the unusual arrangement, all parties including Kevin and his new partner Immaculate said they were satisfied with their new marriages and had no plans to go back to their former spouses.
