State Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Dr. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, has revealed that his journey to wealth started remarkably early—while he was still in primary school.
Speaking during a recent youth mentorship forum in Kampala, the outspoken minister said, “I was a millionaire in Primary Seven,” sparking a mix of surprise, curiosity, and admiration from the audience.
Balaam, known for his deep involvement in the entertainment industry and political mobilization, attributed his early success to entrepreneurial spirit and hard work.
“At a young age, I was already selling goods, organizing small events, and doing all sorts of business that earned me serious money,” he said.
He emphasized that his early exposure to business shaped his outlook on wealth creation and responsibility.
“I didn’t come from a privileged background. I had to hustle smart, and that mindset never left me,” he noted.
Though he did not specify exact figures or ventures during the forum, Balaam’s history as a successful events promoter and businessman before joining politics is widely known.
His revelation was intended to inspire youth to take initiative early in life. “Don’t wait for adulthood to start building your life. Start now. With the right mindset, discipline, and honesty, you can achieve anything,” he encouraged.
Dr. Balaam’s story has sparked conversations on social media, with some hailing him as a model of self-made success, while others questioned the practicality of such early financial achievements.
Regardless, the minister maintains his focus on youth empowerment, vowing to use his new role to create sustainable opportunities for young Ugandans. “If I did it then, our youth can do it now—with better tools and support,” he concluded.
