Love Turned Into Betrayal: Ugandan Lady Left in Tears After Boyfriend Disappears with Kukyala Money

A Ugandan woman is struggling with heartbreak and debt after her boyfriend vanished with money meant for their Kukyala ceremony.

The woman, Sharon Nambi, had taken a loan to fund the important pre-wedding visit, only for her fiancé to disappear without a trace.

For three years, Sharon believed she had found the love of her life in Joseph Kizito.

They had made plans for marriage, and when Joseph claimed he was struggling financially, she did not hesitate to support him.

“I wanted our Kukyala to be perfect,” Sharon said. “He told me he couldn’t afford it, so I decided to help. After all, we were building a future together.”

To make the ceremony a success, Sharon borrowed UGX 5 million (about KES 200,000) from a SACCO, believing Joseph would repay once his business picked up.

“He assured me that everything would be fine,” she added. “He even told me he would surprise my family with extra gifts.”

On the morning of the Kukyala, Sharon’s family prepared to receive Joseph and his relatives.

Food was ready, chairs were arranged, and everyone was excited to welcome the groom-to-be.

“I woke up early to make sure everything was in place,” Sharon recalled. “I even called him in the morning, and he said they were on the way.”

Hours passed, but there was no sign of Joseph or his family. Sharon kept calling his phone, but he did not pick up. Eventually, his phone was switched off.

“My heart sank. I knew something was wrong,” she said, her voice shaking. “Then a friend of his called me and told me the truth—Joseph had left town the night before.”

Sharon is now struggling to pay back the loan she took in the name of love.

Her dreams of marriage were shattered, and she is left wondering how she fell for such a lie.

“I feel used and betrayed,” she said. “I trusted him with everything. Now, I have to face my family, my lenders, and my broken heart.”

Many people have reacted to her story, some offering support while others warning women to be careful when lending money to lovers.

“Let this be a lesson,” one person commented. “Love is not a reason to take loans for someone who has not proven their commitment.”
