FEAR UGANDANS: 2 Fraudsters Arrested Selling Fake Dollars to Centenary Bank Client

Police in Mbale City are holding two men who were arrested while attempting to defraud an elderly customer at Centenary Bank’s Mbale Branch on Friday, September 19.

The men, whose identities have not yet been confirmed, were caught trying to use fake dollars to con the old man who had gone to withdraw a large sum of money.

Annet Nandelenga, the branch manager, explained that the suspects are known tricksters who target unsuspecting clients. She said staff had grown suspicious of the two because they were loitering inside the bank without making any transactions, instead spending their time talking to customers.

Nandelenga revealed that the men had singled out the elderly client and were attempting to convince him when staff quickly intervened.

“The moment our staff saw them surrounding the client and both engaging him, we bounced on them,” she said.

The suspects were handed over to Mbale Central Police Station, where they remain in custody as investigations continue. By press time, police spokesperson Rogers Taitika said he had not yet been briefed on the case by the investigating team.
