The Commander of Sango Bay Police, Commissioner of Police Maate Godfrey, has died while carrying out his official duties.
Reports show that Maate collapsed on October 19, 2025, while on duty in Kyotera District. He was quickly taken to a nearby health facility, but doctors confirmed his death upon arrival.
Police officially announced his passing in a statement released on October 20, 2025. The statement read, “We sadly announce the death of Commissioner of Police Maate Godfrey, Commander of Sango Bay Police Operations. He passed away yesterday in Kyotera District.”
His death comes just days after the burial of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Charles Katalatambi, who was the Director of Human Rights and Legal Services.
Before his passing, Commissioner Maate had served in several key positions in the Uganda Police Force, including as the District Police Commander of Kasese and in other important leadership roles.
