Sudhir Ruparelia Honoured for Boosting Uganda’s Tourism

Businessman Sudhir Ruparelia, the Chairman of Speke Group of Hotels and Ruparelia Group, has been honoured for his outstanding contribution to Uganda’s tourism and hospitality sector.

He received the award on September 27, 2025, during the national World Tourism Day celebrations in Arua City. The event was presided over by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.

Sudhir, who has long supported wildlife conservation and sustainable tourism, was given a golden flamingo trophy. The award symbolised his efforts to protect Uganda’s natural heritage while at the same time promoting the country as a leading global destination.

The celebration took place at the scenic Arua City Golf Course. It attracted government officials, international guests, tourism stakeholders, and members of the local community. The 2025 event was held under the global theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”

Prime Minister Nabbanja praised the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities and its agencies for their continued work to grow the sector. She also recognised the role of private investors like Sudhir, whose projects have helped to shape Uganda’s economy.

“Tourism is one of the pillars of Uganda’s development, and the private sector has been at the centre of this growth. Investors like Dr Sudhir have not only boosted hospitality but also promoted wildlife conservation and community empowerment,” Nabbanja said.

Sudhir’s recognition follows many years of investment in tourism, conservation, and hospitality. His work has helped revive national parks, support eco-tourism projects, protect endangered species, and create opportunities for communities. His leadership has brought global attention to Uganda as a top travel destination, which has greatly supported the country’s economy.

This latest honour strengthens Sudhir Ruparelia’s position as one of the leading figures behind Uganda’s vision of sustainable tourism.
