A National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate collapsed today during the party’s local elections in Jinja after seeing that no one was supporting him.
The incident happened during the grassroots elections, where people show support by standing in line behind the person they want to vote for. When the man looked back to check how many people were behind him, he found that he was standing alone. Everyone else had lined up behind his opponent.
Witnesses say he was shocked and collapsed immediately. People at the scene quickly came to help and rushed him to a nearby health center. His condition has not yet been confirmed.
These elections are part of NRM’s effort to prepare for the 2026 general elections by choosing leaders at the village level. The lining-up method is commonly used by the party during internal voting.
No official statement has been released by NRM leaders about the incident. The situation has raised concerns about the stress and pressure candidates face during public elections like this.
