Famous Ugandan Pastor Joseph Serwadda has boldly demanded that the Born Again Pentecostal (Balokole) community also receive a portion of the Shs 4.2 billion government funding.
The funding was allocated by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the just-concluded Martyrs’ Day celebrations this past June 3rd, 2025.
The funding was distributed among three religions, which included the Anglican and Catholic churches receiving 2 billion Uganda shillings and the Muslim receiving 200 million Uganda shillings.
However, the Born Again, commonly referred to as Balokole, feel neglected and also need a share of that money.
“We, too, have martyrs—pastors killed while preaching—and deserve a share of the Shs 4.2 B budgeted for religious sects,” stated Pastor Serwadda.
Martyrs’ Day, celebrated on June 3, commemorates the 22 Catholic and 23 Anglican martyrs who were executed between 1885 and 1887 for their Christian faith.
To support these commemorations, the government has allocated funds to the main Catholic and Anglican organising dioceses to cover logistics, security, lodging, and media outreach .
With the born-again community also wanting a share, many would be drawn to ask them about their martyrs.
What is your say on the born-again community seeking recognition on part of the shares? Drop your comment below on your thoughts in the comments section.
