Shamim Malende, the Woman Member of Parliament for Kampala, has been airlifted to Nairobi Hospital in Kenya for specialized medical care. She departed Uganda this morning and will be admitted to Aga Khan Hospital following a month of being bedridden. Nsambya Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment for several months, advised the transfer to address her ongoing health issues.
Malende has been grappling with severe stomach pain and complications that have left her significantly weakened and unable to walk independently. Over the past two years, she has faced recurring health challenges, undergoing multiple emergency abdominal surgeries. Despite these interventions, her condition continues to resurface, leaving her physically exhausted.
Regarding the financial aspects of her treatment, Malende clarified that Parliament partially covers her medical expenses through her insurance as an MP, while she personally handles any additional costs. She expressed gratitude toward her National Unity Platform party leaders and members for their consistent support and concern during her ordeal.
