On Tuesday, April 9, 2025, residents of Ganda in Nabweru Sub-County, Wakiso District, were stunned to find the lifeless body of Safina Nabitaka, a well-known doctor, inside her clinic under puzzling circumstances.
The 40-year-old health practitioner, admired for her commitment to the community, was discovered dead just hours after she was last seen happily engaging with locals outside her clinic on the evening of April 8. Concern arose when her clinic, which usually opened by 8:00 a.m., remained closed well past noon. A neighbor, Michael Sekidde, noted that this was out of character for her, as she was always punctual. Growing anxious by midday, residents decided to check on her. They found the clinic door unlocked and entered.
Inside, they encountered a distressing scene: Dr. Nabitaka lying motionless on the floor. The group immediately alerted Christopher Muyimbwa, the area defense secretary, who confirmed the tragic discovery. He observed no visible signs of injury, forced entry, or theft, leaving the cause of her death a mystery.
Police arrived quickly and initiated an investigation into the sudden passing of the doctor. Early assessments found no evidence of violence, though the exact cause of death remains unclear pending a postmortem report, as stated by an officer at the scene.
Community leaders have called on anyone with details about Nabitaka’s final activities to assist the investigation. Her unexpected death has deeply saddened the neighborhood, where she was fondly remembered as a compassionate and devoted health worker. As police work to reconstruct her last hours, her family and friends anxiously await answers.
