Six Ugandans died in a tragic fire in Kuwait earlier this week. The fire broke out around 4:00 AM in the Al Riggai residential building while the victims were asleep.
The fire started when an air conditioning unit overheated, spreading flames quickly through the building. The residents were caught off guard and could not escape in time.
The victims were Fred Ndawula, Ian Jonathan Musiime, Esawo Gaganga, Harold Kafeero, Hudson Kikomeko, and Gita Wilberforce. Some were burned so badly they could not be identified.
The Ugandan community in Kuwait and back home in Uganda is deeply saddened. Families and friends are grieving the sudden loss of their loved ones. The Ugandan embassy in Kuwait is working with local authorities to help bring the bodies back to Kampala for proper burial.
Community leaders in Kuwait said this is one of the saddest moments for Ugandans living abroad. They are providing counseling and support to others shaken by the tragedy.
This event shows how dangerous faulty appliances can be. It reminds everyone to check building safety regularly, especially in hot places where equipment can overheat.
Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has promised to support the families and ensure the deceased are returned home for burial.
