A police officer stationed in Mpondwe Lhubiriha Town Council, Kasese District, lost his life on Sunday afternoon when a tree, toppled by a fierce rainstorm, crashed into the Mpondwe Police Station depot where he was located.
Sudden, powerful winds are thought to have destabilized the tree, leading to the fatal collapse onto the building.
The storm, which swept through western Uganda on June 8, wreaked havoc across the region, uprooting trees, damaging structures, and disrupting daily life.
The officer’s death marks the gravest incident reported from the storm to date. Authorities have not yet disclosed the officer’s identity.
Describing the event as a tragic consequence of severe weather, police officials are actively investigating the circumstances. The Uganda Police Force has committed to issuing a detailed statement as soon as further details emerge.
The incident has left the Mpondwe community in mourning
